Caganer Duc

The eagle owl is the largest bird in the owl family and tends to nest in natural cavities in the ground. Here in Torroella de Montgrí, we have a karst cave, the Cau del Duc (Eagle Owl's Lair), known for being inhabited by Mesolithic prehistoric humans and because it recently housed an enormous owl. This solitary, sedentary, nocturnal bird of prey usually eats rats, rabbits, or, if lucky, hares, squirrels, moles, and hedgehogs. It is currently a protected species.
