Caganer Caramellaire

The Caramellaire is the one who sings the caramelles, traditional folk songs from Old Catalonia and the northern part of New Catalonia, sung at Easter to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Caramellaires are groups of children or adults who go from house to house and farmhouse to farmhouse on Easter Saturday at dusk or on the mornings of Easter Sunday and Monday. They accompany themselves with various instruments and collect eggs and money from people to have a communal meal at the end of their rounds. Some versions also include a dance between songs.
